Cop cowards in California

Just as I was starting to once again feel some genuine sympathy for the brave American police officers who often risk their lives to protect our rights and personal safety, after some of them have been ambushed and killed recently, a group of boneheaded cops in Northern California have reminded me that many of them are just a bunch of cringing cowards who care only about themselves.

Sadly, a few Northern California Cops are actually threatening to stop working San Francisco 49ers football games unless the team punishes Colin Kaepernick simply for exercising his First Amendment rights by sitting out the national anthem ritual before preseason contests in protest of what he perceives as police brutality and racial injustice in America.

the Santa Clara police union, which represents  70 police officers who work eight 49’ers home games per year, told the 49ers organization that they wouldn’t work at the stadium if it doesn’t “take action” against Kaepernick over his protest.

I guess that shows us just about how much these cops are interested in protecting individual rights and serving the public interest. If Kaepernick isn’t punished for exercising his rights, they aren’t going to show up to do their jobs.

"The board of directors of the Santa Clara Police Officer's Association has a duty to protect its members and work to make all of their workings environments free of harassing behavior,” the letter says.

What’s the big deal? What harassing behavior? These poor little cops feel harassed by someone who sits out the national anthem? That’s harassment? Their tender feelings are hurt and they’re mad because of that? They have to be protected from that?

Are they joking? They’re cops! Cops are supposed to ignore trivial crap like that and go about doing their jobs. Instead they’re afraid of someone who doesn’t like them; is protesting against them. That’s what it’s all about. They’re supposed to be protecting Kaepernick’s right to protest.

Now other pro football players are supporting Kaepernick and joining his protest. Last week he decided to kneel for the national anthem in San Diego during the Chargers’ Salute to the Military. He was joined by defensive back Eric Reed. Seattle Seahawks player Jeremy Lane also sat for the national anthem when the Seahawks played the Oakland Raiders.

Are all the cops going to start crying like a bunch of infants now and refuse to do their jobs just because a few innocent, if perhaps misguided, protesters exercising their First Amendment rights are doing something that makes them feel bad? If someone doesn’t love them they can’t take it?

It’s ridiculous. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Ironically, Kaepernick has pledged to donate the first $1 million he makes this season to communities that help people.

So who is the patriot and who are the cowards?
